Preservation Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty has experienced significant changes and developments in recent years. The basic philosophy of Preservation Rhinoplasty is to protect the anatomical components that have “structural importance” for the nose.

When the conservative approach is performed with the Closed Rhinoplasty Technique, no skin incision is made under the nose while reaching the nasal structures. In this case, there will be no incision scar in the middle section of the lower part of the nose. The incisions remain inside the nostrils and these scars are not visible when viewed from the outside.
In Open Rhinoplasty, there is a small incision under the nose. The nasal structures are accessed through this incision.
It would not be right to directly compare the Open and Closed methods with each other. Both methods have their own advantages. The important thing is to decide correctly which method to choose according to the nose structure.

In the conservative method, while reaching the nasal structures, an important anatomical ligament called the “Nasal Tendon” is preserved. Bu bağ burun ucunu yukarı doğru asar ve aynı zamanda burun ucunun esnek ve hareketli olmasını da sağlar. Bu bağ burun ucunu yukarı doğru asılı tutan bir yay gibi düşünülebilir. If this ligament is not protected, the tip of the nose may lose its flexibility and hang down.

The nasal tip ligament is not the only ligament protected in the conservative approach. In the conservative approach, the ligaments that attach the cartilages in both nose wings to the solid cartilages above are also preserved. The role of these ligaments in breathing is extremely important.

In the protective approach, the nasal dorsum structures, bone and cartilage membranes are also protected. Thus, post-operative swelling, bruising and numbness will be less.

Special tools and equipment have been designed to perform surgery with a conservative approach. With the help of special lighting and surgical instruments, surgeries can be performed in a more controlled manner and the person performing the surgery can stick to the pre-operative planning more accurately.

However, the most important element in Rhinoplasty surgery is the experience of the person performing the surgery. The surgical results of a surgeon who is experienced in his/er field are naturally expected to be more successful and consistent.

Another important convenience that developing technological developments provide to Aesthetic Surgeons is two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) simulation programs.

With two-dimensional and three-dimensional simulation programs, the shape of the patient’s face and nose is transferred to the computer environment and surgery planning is made in line with the patient’s wishes and expectations. In these simulations, the patient gets an idea of what his or her post-operative appearance will be like. The surgeon who will perform the surgery works more comfortably during the surgery because he has a road map in his hand.

SIMULATION STUDIES CAN NEVER GUARANTEE THE RESULTS OF THE SURGERY. IT IS ONLY A GUIDE. NEITHER THE PERSON WHO WILL HAVE SURGERY SHOULD HAVE SUCH EXPECTATIONS, NOR THE SURGEON WHO WILL PERFORM THE SURGERY SHOULD NOT CLAIM A GUARANTEED RESULT. THE NOSE IS A LIVING ORGAN AND IT PASSES A CERTAIN RECOVERY PERIOD AFTER SURGERY. THIS RECOVERY PERIOD VARIES FROM PERSON TO PERSON.
